VEGETATION
Actually, four separate types of plant communities can be identified in the lands around the lake. These include dense mixed evergreen forest, open mixed evergreen forest, mountain brush, and riparian or water side vegetation. Mixed evergreen forest composed of ponderosa pines and white firs with scattered sugar and lodgepole pine trees are most typical of Lake Almanor West.. Jeffrey pines, which are difficult to tell apart from ponderosa pines, are also scattered through the area.
The understory shrubbery contains mostly mountain whitethorn, greenleaf manzanita and large clumps of western chokecherry.
